La Vallée des
Singes (Valley of the Monkeys) near
Romagne. – Conveniently located just 500m from La Roseraie.
This very popular and fascinating visitor attraction provides
a unique experience to see monkeys and gorillas close up,
living in a natural habitat in semi freedom. Pygmy marmosets,
macaques, gibbons and capuchin monkeys provide hours of entertainment
and educational value. La Vallée des Singes has been
designed for conservation of species. Over 200 animals roam
free on wooded isles and each year new primates are born.

Poitiers
The European theme park of the moving image. Experience 3D
cyber trips and space missions, view films on giant flat,
circular and spherical screens, Imax cinema, the Atlantis

A full day is needed to enjoy all the attractions,
music, shows and breathtaking adventures on land, sea and

Chateau des Aigles (Eagles
Castle) in the
medieval town of Chauvigny. Giants of the Sky (Les Geants
de Ciel) is the title of the new show at the Château:
vividly coloured parrots, eagles, vultures and marabous fly

at Brux is 17th century, which also has a museum of the 1900's.
Guided family tours are popular and for children this is a
particular delight as they can dress in period costume and
enjoy sitting in the room sets, at dressing tables, the piano
etc.

Architectural heritage
Vienne has a highly acclaimed architectural heritage with
buildings in the Romanesque style in Poitiers, Civray and
Montmorillon. In the area there are Renaissance châteaux,
an abbey at Charroux and a 16th Century market hall in Couhé.
Outdoor leisure activities.
There are holiday activities to suit all tastes including, fishing, cycling,
swimming, horse riding, freshwater lakes and dedicated recreational areas.
These are all within easy reach of La Roseraie. The Civray area is in the
heart of the countryside, a haven of greenery. Be charmed by the small villages,
stroll the pathways and enjoy the meandering waterways of the Charente and
the nearby River Clain.
Fishing
Fishing is popular all over the region in rivers, streams and lakes. A ‘holiday'
fishing licence is easily obtainable for around 30€.

Nearby recreational areas
Les Iles de Payre – A large, popular, dedicated recreational centre for children
of all ages. It has a swimming pool with waterslide, a Miniature Port with
small electric ride-in boats and Karts on grass for children from ages 3 to
10, ‘.le swin golf' and areas for fishing. Or, a similar facility at the nearby
Maison Blanche at Sauze Vaussais.

The vineyards of Cognac and Confolens.
La Rochelle with its quaint old harbour and
delightful restaurants many of which specialise in 'fruit
de mer'.

Angouleme (just a half an hour drive) – A
town of artistic, architectural and historic interest.
The wonderful beaches of Royan and St Palais-sur-mer
are just a couple of hours away.

are recommended for regional cuisine. The Pizzaria
at the old covered market a popular local meeting place as
is L'auprevoir and Bistro 52 has a good garden restaurant
